There have been increased incidents of fraudsters posing as Embassy officials/vigilance officers making coercive/threatening calls to Indian nationals in Egypt. These imposters call the individuals asking to deposit money (US dollars) in some overseas account as fine for some alleged wrongdoing such as submission of false documents. Some instances of alleged wrongdoing cited by the fraudsters are of wrong paper submissions for COVID Protocol, false immigration documentation, etc.
2. Indian nationals are hereby cautioned not to entertain such calls and engage with such elements. Any such incident should immediately be brought to the knowledge of the Embassy officials for necessary action.
3. It is reiterated that the Government of India/Missions/Consulates or any Indian officials never ask for depositing money into overseas accounts. Any fees or penalty, if to be paid, are collected in person or online with proper records and due receipts.
